St Albans gardeners forum - the local gardening group

About us

Welcome to our website!

Formed in September 1989 at Oaklands College, we are a friendly local gardening group in St Albans. Come and meet other people who enjoy everything that is garden-related. Some members have a lot of experience and some have none, some know plant names and some don’t. What matters is that we all enjoy gardening, listening to interesting talks, and being with like-minded people. Why not come along to a meeting?

Tuesday 10th February 2026 7:30pm - Monet at Giverny
we mark the 100th anniversary of the passing of Monet with a fascinating talk by Caroline Holmes. In 1883 Monet moved into Le Pressoir, Giverny, below his house he created gardens whose colours vibrantly or contemplatively evolved under the Norman skies. Initially he painted the rural motifs of the poplars and grainstacks before devoting himself to the floral canvas of his own making until his death in 1926. Botanically and horticulturally skilled, Monet grew the latest in irises and water lilies watching them as the day reflected its course in their shapes, moments captured for eternity in over 500 paintings. The meticulous restoration of Giverny provides the canvas to explore the man, his paintings and his gardens. The first of the 2026 Seed Swaps will also be happening.
